My husband and I love to take walks; we walk through our neighborhood and other neighborhoods in our area; when we are on vacation, we walk through neighborhoods that are close to our hotel. On these walks we take time to admire the neighborhoods that we walk through. We enjoy their gardens, their houses, and often times peek through their windows. No, we aren't peeping Toms! You know what I mean. We stop at a house and take note of its architecture and wonder about the inside of the house. What does it look like; how is it decorated; what about the family that lives inside? I wonder about the day in the life of the people behind those windows. Where do they work? What do they do? Sometimes my Sweetie and I will make up things about those families. Stuff like; they have 10 kids (because the house is so big) and 3 dogs; the mom and dad own a successful bakery up the street. Sometimes we get ridiculous and dream up that the family owns 400 pair of shoes and vacations in a local hotel because they are afraid of traveling beyond their own town. The family makes their own wallpaper by using used gift wrap; they have a cement pond that really is cement. Or maybe it's a small house but the family is filthy rich and we come up with ideas of how they spend their money. We haven't done this in a very long time so I'm fresh out of ideas; we usually feed off of each other's banter. Anyway, we couldn't possibly know about the family behind those windows unless we knew them personally; to us they are complete strangers.
If you were to look through my window for the past 2 weeks this is what you would see. My daughter Aly had surgery two weeks ago. It was not a major surgery but it wasn’t a minor surgery either. She is doing well, recovering her strength and back in school (for those who haven’t read my post about Aly (my daughter) she is a senior in college). Last week I came down with a sore throat. It started Tuesday morning after I arrived at work. It gradually got worse so I left work thinking it must be something serious. I made a doctor’s appointment; slept until it was time to leave for that appointment; got to the doctor’s office on time and waited a short time to be called back. The doctor took one look at my throat and said “yep, it’s strep but gotta do the test just to make sure”. The test came back positive; took Wednesday off for the 24 hour quarantine. Still felt bad when I went to work Thursday. I was working on a project that ended up with a mistake so had to spend an additional 2 hours fixing it which made for a 10 hour day. Late Friday we got a call that a close relative of my husband’s had died. We got up early on Saturday and drove 10 hours to the funeral. We drove back (10 hours) today (Monday). It’s been a whirlwind! But, I must say I am grateful that my daughter is doing well; I, too, have recovered and we made it home safe and sound from our trip.
How about you? What’s happening behind your window?

I often feel like the rabbit that drew Alice down the rabbit hole; run, run, run, no time for a pause or the minute hand will click over and another minute will be lost. Here it is March; doesn't it seem like we just celebrated New Year's a couple of weeks ago. Where did the time go?
Time is a funny thing, if you are waiting for something, something that is positive, time drags on for what seems like eternity. But, if you are hurrying to meet deadlines, waiting on surgery, trying to clean the house for company, having to fess up to something you did wrong, on vacation or enjoying a weekend (you can add your own list here), time seems to pass like water in a rained filled river.
Why are we always chasing after time? What would happen if we slowed down for a minute and enjoyed the moment? Stopped what we are doing and spent time with our children or grand children? Stopped to wrap our arms around our husbands and tell them how wonderful they are? Stopped to pet the dog/cat that is demanding our attention (which Sadie is doing at this moment)? Stopped to look at the beauty around us, or listen to the rain.......Here is a stanza from a song by "Superchic" called "We Live"; You will find a link to this song at the end of the post, if you've never heard it, I hope you will check it out.
There's a man who waits for the tests to
See if the cancer had spread yet
And now he asks why did I wait to live 'til it was time to die
If I could have the time back, how I'd live
Life is such a gift
So how does the story end?
Well, this is your story and it all depends
So don't let it become true
Get out and do what we were meant to do
This past week, I slowed down to enjoy my grand children. I had errands to run after work and I took one of them with me each day that I had to go do something. I took my grandson by Tropical Smoothie and enjoyed watching him slurp (and I do mean slurp) his smoothie. That smoothie may have been a treat for him but watching him was a treat for me! I then took him to Lowes; he loves that place, I do too. Another day I took my granddaughter to pick out a birthday gift for someone; she loves to shop. It was so much fun watching her look over the items, notice the details and give reasons why that item would make a great gift. What a delightful time we had. I might add that I called my husband on each of these excursions and invited him so he could enjoy these moments with me.
I have several projects I am in the middle of finishing; these are projects I actually enjoy working on, not the kind of things I feel rushed to finish but the kind of things I want to slow down and finish. I plan to put aside the house work and other things that are pulling at my attention once I get home and enjoy some time working on these projects this week. Ahh, just thinking about it gives me a shiver of anticipation.
How about you? Why not slow down this week and do something you enjoy. I'm going to finish 3 items I started a couple of weeks ago (that will leave only 2 items to finish). If you can steal a few minutes (or an hour or so) what will you do with your stolen moments?
Take time and enjoy this day
